What the test involves
The car test includes an eyesight check, vehicle safety questions, driving in traffic with an independent element, and a reversing exercise. Use the official guide to check the current format.
Safety questions
Expect a question about explaining a safety check and another about showing how you use a control. Practise in the car you intend to use so that finding the right control feels familiar.
Reversing and road awareness
Build observation into parking practice rather than treating it as an extra step. Accuracy matters, but so does noticing someone entering the space around your car.
If something does not go to plan
Keep your attention on what happens next. A missed turning is not itself a fault; how you drive remains important. Avoid assuming the result halfway through the test.
Before test day: check your appointment, required documents, eyesight requirements and agreed car arrangements. Read any official instructions sent with the booking.
